The York Sport Show is YSTV’s sporting programme, which covers all types of sport, no matter what the weather, normally with only one camera person filming segments of up to 15 matches of the Wednesday’s sporting fixture every week. Sports covered include netball, badminton, hockey, squash, tennis, football, fencing, rugby, lacrosse and ultimate Frisbee. One editor condenses all of the footage into summary segments for a 30 minute show, presented by Natalie Montezuma and Jake Farrell, which brings sports to the wider University by taking the York Sport sofa around campus and the sports fields to record the presenters’ links. The show also regularly features BUCS updates, news on up-coming matches, results, and key details about what happened in the matches and how that may impact on the team as a whole. As well as covering the main-stream sporting events, the York Sport show also includes special features. This has included Sports President Sam Asfahani taking part in Pole Exercise Club for Children in Need, a special report on a Quidditch match which was raising money for RAG and a summary of the rules of fencing alongside slow motion footage. Gaining up to 350 hits per show, The York Sport Show has rejuvenated interest in match coverage, and lead to important connections with the Student’s Union, and sports teams. This ensures that matches are covered in as much detail as possible, and that student’s can engage more with University sport.
